The tuff bath spring, healing water from the roots of the Lesach Valley
The spring was found by monks from Maria Luggau, a well-known pilgrimage site nearby, in search of herbs. For many centuries, this pure calcium-magnesium-sulphate-bicarbonate spring has been bubbling out of the ancient rock at a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius. As early as 1765, the Duke of Porcia, Count of Ortenburg, allowed the construction of a bathhouse for the monks. In 1972, the healing power of the spring was officially recognized by the state.
